Complete Wellness Care for Lifelong Health
Your pet needs more than food, water, and shelter; regular veterinary care is essential for long-term health and happiness. At Parrett Veterinary Clinic, we take a proactive approach to wellness care, focusing on disease prevention, early detection, and individualized treatment plans tailored to each pet’s age, lifestyle, and overall health. Routine exams allow us to identify concerns early, often before symptoms become serious or painful. Our goal is to help your companion live a longer, healthier, and more comfortable life.
Pet Health & Wellness Services
Our Pet Health resources are designed to complement the care your pet receives during visits with our veterinarians. If you ever have questions, notice changes at home, or need guidance between appointments, our team is always here to help you take the next step with confidence.
Wellness care includes many important components. Not every pet requires every service, but all pets benefit from regular veterinary exams. Our core health services include:
Puppy & Kitten Care
Early veterinary care sets the foundation for a healthy life. We recommend scheduling your new pet’s first exam as soon as possible ideally before exposure to other animals.
During initial visits, we:
- Review medical history and vaccination status
- Develop a customized vaccine plan
- Discuss parasite prevention
- Provide nutrition guidance
- Address training and socialization questions
We consult with owners prior to beginning any treatment and clearly explain all available options and associated costs.
Spay & Neuter
Unless breeding is intended, we recommend spaying or neutering pets within the first six months of life. This routine procedure supports long-term health and can reduce the risk of certain diseases and behavioral concerns.
Parasite Prevention
Fleas, ticks, and internal parasites can cause significant discomfort and serious disease. Preventive care is far easier and safer than treatment after infection.
Fleas & Ticks
Fleas can quickly infest your home, while ticks may transmit Lyme disease and other serious illnesses. If your pet shows signs of itching, lethargy, or illness, prompt evaluation is important.
We do not recommend many over-the-counter parasite treatments due to safety and effectiveness concerns. Our team will guide you toward the safest and most effective products for your pet’s needs.
Internal Parasites
Puppies and kittens commonly carry intestinal parasites and require scheduled deworming and follow-up screening. Ongoing parasite monitoring is recommended throughout adulthood.
Parasite control also protects human family members. The CDC recommends routine intestinal parasite screening to reduce transmission risk.

Vaccinations
Vaccinations protect pets from serious and preventable diseases. At Parrett Veterinary Clinic, immunization plans are customized based on your pet’s age, lifestyle, and exposure risks.
We provide vaccine programs for:
- Adult dogs and cats
- Puppies and kittens
- Select small animals and exotic pets
Because no two pets are alike, we review your pet’s specific needs during each wellness visit and adjust vaccine schedules accordingly. Regular exams are especially important for pocket pets, birds, and exotic species, as these animals may show few outward signs of illness until conditions are advanced.
Senior Pet Care
As pets age, their medical needs change. Advances in veterinary medicine have increased lifespan, but aging pets are at higher risk for:
- Organ dysfunction (kidney, liver, heart)
- Diabetes and thyroid disorders
- Arthritis and mobility issues
- Cancer
Because early signs of disease are often subtle, we recommend senior pets be examined at least every six months.
Preventive Senior Care May Include
- Biannual wellness exams
- Annual bloodwork and urinalysis
- Hormone screening
- ECG, X-rays, or ultrasound when indicated
- Nutrition and mobility evaluations
Early detection allows us to manage conditions more effectively and maintain quality of life.
Dental Care
Oral health is closely connected to overall health. Without regular dental care, pets may develop:
- Gum disease
- Tooth decay
- Infection
- Organ damage affecting the heart, kidneys, or liver
Preventive dental care reduces the need for invasive procedures and supports long-term wellness.
Professional Dental Cleaning
Dental procedures are performed under general anesthesia for patient safety. We:
- Conduct pre-anesthetic screening when needed
- Take full-mouth dental X-rays
- Remove plaque and tartar above and below the gumline
- Polish teeth
- Monitor patients throughout the procedure and recovery
At-Home Dental Care
Home care plays an important role in oral health. Brushing, dental diets, rinses, and approved dental chews can all help maintain healthy teeth between professional cleanings.
